pourmecoffee - Funny and/or interesting

R.I.P Jay Bennett.

Jay Bennett, a former member of the band Wilco, has died at age 45, according to his record label.

Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett (piano) with great live acoustic version of "I'm Always In Love." A sad, screwed-up, beautiful song. Fits the occasion.

Anchor.

From the great Google archive of LIFE photos, a favorite in honor of this Memorial Day:
Youngster clutching his soldier father's leg, while soldier lifts his wife off ground to wish her "Merry Christmas," as result of his good fortune to get leave for holidays, during WWII.

So many great details in this photograph tell the story of service and sacrifice. I think I like best the presents being ignored on the ground.

Can a song be perfectly played and sung live? Um, yes.

Blowing our boys' minds with this one at a family get-together. Ry Cooder is obviously ridiculous with a guitar, and that's that. The great Bobby King (far right) delivers a Top-Of-Mount-Everest vocal workout. They are few and far between, but the accordion flourishes are nice. What a performance.

Rosanne Cash turns 54 this weekend. Here she is two months after her father died. About as raw as it gets.

The original (great piano).

What did we learn this week? That people like head-to-head matchups! Why settle for less:

Long before Obama v. Cheney, there was:

Coleco knew what was what, and so does today's media.

Freak kid on the right with Manson look at the end will haunt my dreams.

My favorite news item of the week: regret-filled monkeys are playing "Let's Make A Deal."

Monkeys playing a game similar to "Let's Make A Deal" have revealed that their brains register missed opportunities and learn from their mistakes. "This is the first evidence that monkeys, like people, have 'would-have, could-have, should-have' thoughts," said Ben Hayden, a researcher at the Duke University Medical Center and lead author of the study published in the journal Science.

They'll be calling their old girlfriends and hanging up soon. Also, of course: [insert obligatory comparison to Congress here].

Today is Mr. T's 57th birthday. I pity the fool that don't watch this video.

Watch it all the way through. Do what Mr. T says. End of story.

A few comments:

  • Least sexily-dressed background dancers ever.
  • Not sure about lyrical focus on pain of childbirth. Found it very offputting.
  • Nice touch to emphasize worldwide as opposed to merely domestic mother adoration.
  • Those short-shorts are too tight for any man to make any woman a mother.

Happy Birthday, Fool.

R.I.P Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse.

Wayne Allwine, the actor who voiced Mickey Mouse for more than 30 years, has died. The Walt Disney Co. says Allwine died Monday of complications from diabetes. He was 62. His wife of 20 years and the voice of Minnie Mouse, Russi Taylor, was by his side.

He is survived by his wife, who voiced Minnie. Really nice to hear them both care out loud so plainspokenly about their craft:
